Our Mam
Tough as old boots but supremely benign ,
Hard as nails that mother of mine .
Proud and straight , yet fragile and kind ,
A diamond forever set in my mind .
Caring and sharing , accepting of others ,
Not judgemental , unlike other mothers .
She welcomed in whoever we brought
And treated them kindly without prejudiced thought .
Once under her roof she told what she expected
And because of that was very very well respected .
As we grew she taught think for yourselves ,
Treat others as you would expect them to treat themselves .
Be loving and giving and always be true
To yourself and your principles as I taught you .
Giving more than receiving ,
Always believing in helping another
And that is why we are so glad
That you are our mother .
