My name is Michael John Guerrieria and I was born in Hulme Manchester and moved to Leicester some 40 years ago .

In my early working life I worked in the textile industry for an importing company that specialized in childrens/ladies wear and travelled to the Far East twice a year on company business .

For a short period of time I worked in engineering and eventually joined the largest U.K. upmarket jewellery company in 1982 .

In August 2010 I was made redundant and therefore retired . This enabled me in October 2010 to attend an art class on Friday mornings at Brockington College Enderby , where I met and became friends with the tutor Mr . Mike Keen .

I do not have an artistic background and had never picked up a pencil or a paint brush until I met Mike , who introduced me to the works of Piet Mondrian , Kasimir Malevich , Vassily Kandinski , Frank Stella , Peter Halley , and Alan Welsford to name but a few to have had an in fluence on my work .

Unfortunately , Mike died suddenly from a heart attack in 2013 and I am dedicating this website to his memory as it was Mike who really encouraged me and convinced me that my work was of exhibition quality .

My paintings are in the main all about the relationship between the colours of the spectrum and how they are perceived by the individual .

The scale and colour being an important part of that perception , as if my paintings were of a different size they would be very different works altogether , the edges of the painting being very important as as I want the painting to be contained within the limits of the canvas .

I have been told that my work is conceptual , abstract , geometric and generic but that does not matter to me as long as it keeps the eyes and mind busy . In other words it needs to be seen and commented on .

I work within my own set of rules , which , help me put my paintings together ; a set size with the paint being applied flatly and calmly as possible with no obvious brush marks and colours to be clean and changed as little as possible.

The aim being to draw the attention whilst being creative and appealing on both a subliminal and conscious level .

I frequently work in sets or series although I do not have any preconceived ideas of what I am going to do but just go with whatever springs to mind at any given time and this may not bear any relationship to what went before .
